Unfortunately, no. Pro Bono CO does not put people in touch with lawyers. If you need a lawyer, you can search the Colorado Bar Association’s Licensed Lawyer Directory. Or, if you are low-income or a Senior, you may qualify for free legal help through Colorado Legal Services or another local legal aid provider.

Pro Bono CO is Colorado’s statewide online clearinghouse of local pro bono opportunities for legal professionals. Legal service providers post volunteer opportunities and legal professionals connect through the portal to the opportunities that best fit their skills and availability.

Anyone can browse opportunities, but must create a profile in order to express interest in an opportunity. You will be prompted to create a profile if you don’t have one already. There’s also a “Create a Profile” button on the homepage.

No. A wide variety of legal professionals can volunteer through Pro Bono CO. We include opportunities for attorneys, licensed legal paraprofessionals (LLPs), paralegals, undergraduate students, law students, law school graduates, and other professionals. Each opportunity should specify what the necessary qualifications are for that posting.

Pro Bono CO does not provide training, however training may be provided by the legal services provider that is hosting the volunteer opportunity.

Pro Bono CO does not provide malpractice insurance and does not verify that volunteers have malpractice insurance. Generally, legal service organizations carry malpractice insurance to cover their volunteers. However, volunteers should independently confirm this with the legal service organization they are considering volunteering for.

As a law firm administrator, you may add or delete users for your firm, track your firm’s participation, and assign opportunities to individuals in your firm. You should also be sure to coordinate with your firm’s attorneys so they don’t create independent profiles that are unaffiliated with your firm.

Before legal services providers can post opportunities, the Colorado Access to Justice Commission’s staff must approve their participation. Our staff conducts a brief review to ensure that all participating organizations are verifiable nonprofit organizations that provide free legal services and otherwise align with Pro Bono CO’s purpose.
